Many picturesque lakes surround Thalgau. A famous saying states that “all ways lead to rome”- In Thalgau however “all ways lead to a lake”. Whether it is the nearby Fuschlsee or the Mondsee or a bit further the Wallersee, the Mattsee and the Obertrumersee, but also the Attersee and the Wolfgangsee are not far away.

Water fun do not only offer the lakes but also several thermal baths in the immediate vicinity – such as the Eurotherme in Bad Ischl, the Watzmanntherme in Berchtesgaden and the Rupertustherme in Bad Reichenhall.

Around the Fuschelsee, visit one of the 13 Glücksplätze – places of pure luck, spots that invite you to relax and immerse in tranquillity.

In St. Gilgen you can walk in the footsteps of Mozart. Mozart’s mother was born there, and his sister Nannerl also lived for a while in the picturesque town at Lake Wolfgang. The house is today a museum and definitely worth a visit. 

Worthwile is also a trip up the mountain with the  Zwölferhorn cable car or on the other side of the lake with the Schafbergtrain. If you feel like enjoying a coffee or “Salzburger Nockerls at the famous restaurant “Weißes Rössl” at lake Wolfgang, you can simply hop on a ship and enjoy a ride around the lake, before arriving in the town of St. Wolfgang.

The town of Caesars “Bad Ischl” is also not far away. Walk in the footsteps of Empress “Sisi” Elisabeth in the park and visit her roval villa, where the original rooms of Emperor Franz Joseph and his wife are still preserved.

In Mattsee you can visit the Fahr(T)raum – a world of Ferdinand Porsche, where you can admire great racing cars, old tractors and much more.

Pure culture can be experienced in the city of Mozart  – Salzburg, which can be easily reached from Thalgau in only 20 minutes. Stroll through the gardens of Mirabell, cross the river Salzach to reach the charming shopping street “Getreidegasse”. Take a short break at the venerable Cafe Tomaselli located at the “Alter Markt” square and visit the Salzburg Cathedral on the dome square. Among other places, definitely worth your while are exploring the fortress Hohensalzburg, Mozart’s birthplace and residence, as well as the castle Hellbrunn with the famous water games.
